Westfield Airshow featuring the ThunderbirdsWestfield, MA August 27, 2005
The Westfield Airshow, is annually sponsered by The 104th Fighter Wing of the Massachusetts
Air National Guard. They had an estimated 100,000 people from throughout New England show
up for the 2005 Westfield International Airshow
on August 27, 2005. Josh and I were two of them as we arrived in Westfield at 8 AM.
"The Celebration of Freedom" airshow included aerial and static
displays of military aircraft at the Barnes Municipal Airport in Westfield, MA. Highlights
of the show included the world famous U.S. Air Force "Thunderbirds" in the F-16 Fighting
Falcon, the U.S. Army Parachute Team "Golden Knights," and the local 104th Fighter Wing's
A-10 Thunderbolt II "Warthogs". The combination of static and aerial displays of aircraft
included over 30 planes ranging from the PT-17 deployed in 1935, World War II vintage planes
including the P-51 Mustang, B-25 Bomber and P-47 Thunderbolt and today's high tech aircraft
including the B-2 Stealth bomber and incredibly huge C-5 Galaxy. The weather was absolutely
perfect for the airshow as the clear blue morning sky yielded to a more interesting cloud
enchanced version for the afternoon aerial performances. The clouds added interest to the
photographs we shot.
For this show Josh & I each brought our Canon gear and photographed the airshow from start to finish.
