The Gates of Central Park Photographs
New York City, February 20, 2005
The Gates is an artistic endeavor by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. There are 7,500 gates,
16 feet high with a width varying from 5 feet 6 inches to 18 feet. The Gates line
23 miles of footpaths in Central Park (New York City). The gates' panels are actually free-hanging,
saffron-colored fabric panels that are suspended from the top of each frame and hang down to 7 feet
above the ground. Most of the Gates are approximately 12 feet apart along the footpaths.
I drove down to the city early Sunday morning and arrived at Central Park before 8:30.
There weren't the large crowds that show up later in the day so I was able to wander about
the footpaths & freely set up my tripod. It is difficult from any one perspective to take
in the magnitude of the Gates. The following photographs (photos) are some of my favorites
from the day.
