The University of Connecticut (UConn) Men
Play in the Maui Classic Basketball Tournament

In mid November, 2000 Edie and Jerry celebrated their 30th aniversary by flying to Hawaii for 2 weeks. Coincidentally the UConn Men's Basketball team was playing in the Maui Classic Basketball Tournament. The Classic is an annual tournament sponsored by Chaminade University the host school. The games are played on Maui in the Lahaina Civic Center. The Civic Center more closely resembles a (non-air conditioned) gym of a small high school. Although the UConn team lost their first game to Dayton they did win their second and third round games against Kentucky and Chaminade.

We first landed in Oahu and stayed on Waikiki Beach for two nights. On our first visit to Hawaii in 1980 we elected to skip Oahu and go instead to the Big island, Maui and Kauai. We both regretted not having seen the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. This time we felt it would be a perfect place to adjust to the time change and finally get to see the Memorial.

What follows then are photos taken first on Oahu (really just the Arizona Memorial), then shots while we were on Maui and finally Kauai. Perhaps the best really does come last!
