1st game at Rentschler Field

The following photos were taken at the University of Connecticut - Indiana football game on August 30, 2003. This was the first game held at the new Rentschler Field in East Hartford. UConn's move to 1A football required a larger stadium and Rentschler Field holds about 40,000 people. This game was almost a sellout (estimated 38,000 + were at the game). I don't know if there has ever been a larger number of people to see a UConn Football game. The crowd must have enjoyed the 34-10 UConn win!
UConn tailgating was the in thing and there are several shots of some of the tailgaters in the first group of photos. Most of the tailgaters I do not know but were gracious enough to let me take their pictures. It seemed that everyone was having a great time! The photographs here are all in chronological order.
All of these photographs were shot with a Canon 10D. Game shots utilized a Canon 300mm f2.8 IS lens and the tailgating shots were taken with a 24-70mm f2.8 zoom. All have been edited and / or resized with Paint Shop Pro V8.01.
