Women's Basketball - A Photo Story

Hartford Civic Center January 8, 2005

The University of Connecticut Women's Basketball Team lost a close one to Pat Summitt's Tennessee Volunteers at the Hartford Civic Center Saturday January 8, 2005. Despite freshman Charde Houston's contibution of 19 points and five steals The Connecticut women were on the wrong side of a 68-67 final score. UConn had a chance to tie or win the game with only a few seconds left as Ann Strother was fouled while attempting a three point shot. UConn was down by 2 at that point. Strother made the 1st but missed the next two, Tennessee's Tye'sha Fluker grabbed the rebound and time ran out.
UConn led for most of the game but in the second half Tennessee closed a 9 point deficit early. The UConn women responded by opening an eight point lead but the Vols capitalized on UConn turnovers. Tennessee's Alexis Hornbuckle came back after a UConn turnover and hit a layup to give Tennessee its first lead at 62-61 with 2:38 left. UConn never had the lead again. With the win Tennessee ends an eight game losing streak against the Huskies.
