Connecticut (UConn) improved to 12-1 on the season, while the Tigers dropped to 8-5 on Connecticut's 67-66 win on Saturday afternoon in the Hartford Civic Center. UConn junior Marcus Williams hit a runner in the lane with 20 seconds to play to send Connecticut to a 67-66 come-from-behind victory over Louisiana State before another sellout crowd of 16,294. UConn trailed most of the game before freshman Jeff Adrien made a jumper in the lane to put the Huskies ahead 57-55 with 6:02 remaining in the second half. LSU answered with back-to-back baskets by Glen Davis and Tyrus Thomas put the Tigers back up 59-57 with 4:18 left. Rudy Gay tied the score with a jumper, before Hilton Armstrong dunked to put UConn back ahead. LSU's Tasmin Mitchell again tied the score at 61 with 2:47 to go before Hilton Armstrong put the Huskies ahead for good with a lay-up off a pass from Williams. Williams scored again to give UConn a 67-64 lead before Darrel Mitchell made two free throws to bring LSU within one, at 67-66. Williams missed two free throws with seven seconds to play. Mitchell had the opportunity to win the game but his three-point attempt at the buzzer was no good. Connecticut was paced by senior Rashad Anderson who recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Rudy Gay led the Huskies in scoring with 19 points, while Williams contributed 13 and a game-best six assists. Hilton Armstrong finished with 11 points.
