Vanessa Williams Concert on the Green

Vanessa Williams performed as part of Market New Haven's Free Concerts on the Green Saturday July 30th. We arrived at 5:30 PM to find the Green packed with people - all anxious to see Vanessa Williams perform in concert. Edie & I managed to shoehorn ourselves into a small available space about 50 yards from the stage. It was a good vantage point to take photographs from. We were elbow to elbow with the people next to us who were quite gracious in making a little room for our lawn chairs. They had come to the Green at 1:30 in the afternoon to stake out their space. I didn't make any friends with the people behind us when I started setting up my tripod & camera. I assured them I wouldn't be in their way - and wasn't.
Jeremy Pelt well known and talented jazz trumpeter opened the concert at about 6:30 pm. Some time after 8 Vanessa Williams began. Vanessa Williams is a platinum-selling pop and R&B star. She has appeared on Broadway and in films. She is one talented performer and I looked forward to not only listening to her perform but also the opportunity to photograph a real concert.

She didn't disappoint! The concert was just awesome. She performed many selections from the 70's and 80's and the crowd loved it. I of course enjoyed listening and getting some good images of a bona fide star.

All photos were shot using a Canon 1D MK II with a 300mm f2.8 IS lens, tripod mounted.
